About the middle of January 2022, when I was down from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and facing an extended stay due to a family health emergency, my 2006 Vibe developed significant exhaust system grumbling, and made such a racket of noise that I could hardly hear my own thoughts while driving. Other drivers were staring at me on the road! I took my car to a well known shop that is near my folks home and was told I'd need a new catalytic converter and related work for about $750. My son, who is a mechanic in a well regarded shop in the U.P. talked with their mechanic on the phone about it. I decided to stop in at Half Price Auto Repair as I'd considered stopping there for something else a year or so back and had remembered looking them up, but had ended up driving home and having my son do the repair. So glad that I thought of going there this time! They were not only extremely accommodating, taking my car in to inspect and diagnose it within a very short time, but they also said that I didn't need a new catalytic converter! They stated that they were able to realign a pipe, do some tightening and fastening of loose parts, and I was good to go. Their service and professionalism was exemplary. And their charge was incredibly affordable. I am now grateful to know that I have someone to go to for auto repairs in West Bend WI who, like my son and the boss he works for in Houghton MI, are passionate about having integrity, providing quality service, keep folks safe on the roads, and are just plain caring about others. Half Price Auto is always fast, reliable, and affordable. After years of trying different shops, this is the only one I'll go to. They're always friendly, and they don't try to fear monger you with "such and such is wrong, you should fix it." They have a very pleasant heated waiting area with plenty of entertainment to pass the time. Best $20 oil change I'll ever get. Plus, it's local!

It used to be a great bargain. Now there sure isnt ANYTHING half price their. Yes, oil changes are cheap but thats to get your car in the door. Then you need all kinds of work. Its your typical auto shop. John is a cool dude so you have that.

My car had a sudden issue with a rear wheel bearing and they made time for me on a busy holiday week, they gave great advice and helped immensely. I will be using them in the future !

They go up and beyond to help

I live in Cedarburg and work in West Bend, having just started a new job, and my brakes needed repair. I don't have a family member who could help with transportation. I called Half-Price Auto Repair and explained my dilemma. A two minute conversation, and I had never done business with them before...it was arranged that they would pick up my car where it was parked in West Bend, take it to their shop and repair it, and return it to the parking spot before I got off work. They stayed in communication with me throughout the day, let me know the estimated repair cost before they began work, called for payment when it was done. The price was extremely reasonable. I had been so stressed out about my car, but they made everything easy for me. I can't thank them enough. But I would recommend them to anyone. With the shortage of new cars, I will imagine a lot of people will be opting to keep their old cars going a bit longer. Half-Price Auto Repair will do right by you.
